Plaza de la Proclamación

Esta plaza de Cartagena, indudablemente ha recogido las emociones y palpitaciones que la ciudad sintióen sus mejores días revolucionarios. Al comenzar

la primera década del siglo XVII, cuando la Iglesia Catedral estaba casi terminada, la plaza fue llamada de la Catedral.

Años más tarde, instalado el Ayuntamiento en el edificio que existió donde actualmente se levanta el moderno edificio que tuerce a la plaza de Bolívar, la plaza tomó el nombre de “Plaza del Cabildo”. Al correr de los días, la plazuela cambia de nombre y es  llamada del “Palacio”, y finalmente, cuando el pueblo de Cartagena se reunió frente al edificio de la Gobernación, el 11 de noviembre de 1811, para respaldar a los signatarios del Acta de Independencia, las autoridades dispusieron que la plaza fuera llamada de la “Proclamación”.
